Started ULing past BWL singles on http://soundcloud.com/5amconductions-1

and perhaps listening to them again and reviewing the previous releases, there still needs to be a bit of refinement as far as direction and overall vibe. It was necessary perhaps to air out influences and experiment with limits, remaining open-ended....But perhaps this is the advantage of being DIY- that i really have no one to answer to and can work at my own pace. i see BWL being less accessible-sounding, darker, heavier and more experimental; as there is still another albums' worth of material of this sort and maybe 2 or 3 to be done.

I have found the biggest challenge is assigning visual elements, as sometimes things get too complicated so usually i go with the simplest design. Ironically, the much of the art and graphic design i do does not really "sound" like my music, though it is coming from the same person.

A recent EP of tracks that reflects the earlier days of electro influence is being assembled for promo, mostly for DJ's. But feeling i have explored enough, that i need to really define the vision more clear is occurring with a little break from production and time to reflect. Easier said than done to be uncompromising when trends raise their ugly head.

It is a part of the world i would very much like to visit and explore further as many artists from the West before me.

This is a 10-track release with a donation- it will not be directly contributed to the many organizations involved with the crisis as i feel this is a personal decision on everyone's part and to not appear to be "capitalizing" on it. I did and do believe this current event is perhaps a portent of things to come as a reflection of our reliance on technology, the surge in need of new energy and resources places us in a fragile position as the planet's systems struggle to maintain a balance between the natural and man-made...

well, i have released another BentWithLight digital, mostly further defining the songwriting from the experimentalism, but i really actually like how it turned out as being a follow-up to "Burnt Offerings". I decided to go back to my roots (cliche), even mastering to cassette and with a more live jam feel, with live drums and improv.; a pretty close sound to live performance as i can get.

Speaking of live performance, i am gearing up for either a late winter/mid spring noisiv litcat show, i think with more old school dub and downtempo/loungy material and have asked my brother to play guitar. Will be picking up a wah pedal for him and maybe more FX. I plan on using a turntable in the mix, too. It should be a good setup to get back into performing, with a laid-back feel and for my bro to get acquainted with my flow, for possible bigger venues.

This is how it has been done- DIY hand-made promos. I used to dub each CD track by track real time, but having them on hard drive now helps the production. I like to put these together and make each with a variety of tracks.

I have had all kinds of interesting reactions to these and there just isn't anything like giving something hand made personally.

i am just having this feeling the more i am away from the www; that it is really hard to claim ownership of anything in it. I moved- i could pack my material belongings upon moving, secure them, relocate them; but the information i release and work i publish- it belongs to everyone. I could not pack up 5AM, or gather back up what i have put out and so, my energy this year will be placed more into tactile accomplishments- live work.

I talked to a girl today who worked at the local record store, who informed me she didn't keep up with music; that her interest was gardening and rarely did she 'go out'. It struck me that the virtual life is becoming more and more real while real life is becoming less- perhaps in the near future, "if it wasn't published on the internet, it didn't happen..." and i feel the call of that familiar obsolete life that i only have witness to, that lonely and personal video documentary that continues to play out unseen- where the only recording made is vague chemical imprints in my neural network, of which i alone can only interpret as reality.

So, it appears once again, one's life must be art- not product or skill or cleverness, but individual experience.
